The Kuku Nyungkal are a rainforest people, a group of the wider Kuku Yalanji, and for as long as anyone can reckon they belonged to this drainage of green ranges and running water. Their story is one of a profound law of country, of that country being taken, and of a long, determined return. It begins, as it always has for them, on the land itself.
